Do you think the Civil War would have lasted longer if the North had lost at Gettysburg?
The battle of Gettysburg had little significance in terms of location or power. It wasn't important like the Union taking control of NO which then cut off the Mississippi for the Confederacy to ship their products down. Lee had hoped by invading the North that the people there would demand that Lincoln end the war before they lost their homes, etc. The Copper Head movement was trying to get the war over and they didn't care what the South did if they'd stop fighting. I doubt that the loss of Gettysburg would have meant anything to the Union. They certainly wouldn't have stopped fighting over that place. It might have galvanized Yankee forces into going after Lee for once and for all instead of footing around (which is what most Union generals did in the early days of the war).
