The numbers on the right side of my keyboard won't work, with or without NumLock light on?

For typing in numbers, I always use the numbers on the right side of the board. A friend of mine sold me their computer and I can't seem to figure out how to get the numbers to type. I've tried typing in the numbers with the Num Lock light on and off. What else can I do? This is driving me crazy! Please help!
